Here are three ways you can incorporate gratitude behaviors into your life this year. 1. Start a gratitude journal.
I challenge you to pick up a journal or notebook - it doesn't need to be anything fancy! Starting today, write one thing each day you are thankful for. This new habit will be more likely to stick if you build it into your daily routine and put it somewhere you'll remember. Maybe you keep your gratitude journal in your lunch box to write during your break at work, or on your bedside table to jot down before you fall asleep. 2. Write thank you notes. Thank you notes aren't just for gifts. You could thank someone for a helpful act, a kind word, or just for being them! If you're a teacher, this is a great behavior to implement with your students, as it will provide them with positive feedback and foster healthy relationships at the same time. Keep a stack of cards in your desk to write a quick note whenever inspiration strikes. You could even set a goal to write one thank you note a week. 3. Recite 5 things your grateful for. Yes, I mean speak it out loud. Everyone talks to themselves sometimes, right? Personally, I like to do this when I'm driving in my car or praying in my home. If that's not your style, find a "gratitude friend" who you can call, text, or tell your daily gratitudes. The bonus accountability may help keep this good thing going. Start small, and give yourself grace! Remember, gratitude is called a "practice" for a reason. And above all else, know that I am grateful for you. Thank you for being here and being part of the Braving BSEL family! With love to you and yours, J

Meet JennyI'm a special education teacher turned BSEL coach. If I'm not geeking out on the research, I'm probably snuggling up on the couch with my husband and our two cats, Gibson and Binks. Categories
